You Live — You Learn. Usually the Hard Way

Let’s lighten things up.

Possibly because I often proudly claim to go to a school that is not littered with guys on testosterone overload, who imagine themselves to be somehow more significant than guys who actually go to college to learn something, a  friend has posted, (in an ironic twist and I fear in order to counter my posts), a history of Lacrosse with some indication that NYU had the first college lacrosse team in the country.

I have no idea if this is true but do not feel like using my investigative prowess to find out so I will take the word of this - good with numbers - surfer boy just out of sheer laziness.( actually I did investigate some and by the look s of these pants I understand totally why they no longer have a santioned team). He did remind me though, because I passed this piece of info on to him a week or two ago…about the couple of rather funny emails I received. Not sure if they were meant to be funny but I’ll start out with an explanation.

You live you learn. You love you learn. You cry you learn .You lose you learn. You bleed you learn. You scream you learn

There aren’t many sports here really — there are “sports” but this is certainly not the place you come if your interest is collegiate sports — they have a lot of club teams for this or that a few intramurals and a couple of Div 3 teams. So it appears we evidently have a club lacrosse team and that club lacrosse team would like to become a division three college team. Who Knew !!!

This is one  of the emails. I received, can’t remember when but they were having some kind of tournament or game in Long Island or something, with attachment with schedule information  with it.

Dear Miss.….…

We are happy to see you spreading news of the sport of Lacrosse. Any publicity is good publicity as far as we can tell.

Our spectatorship has grown exponentially as the Duke scandal has grown so we would like to encourage your participation, as a booster perhaps, and invite you to show your face at any of the events. Yes Ms —— we know what you look like or we wouldn’t invite you because, elitist pigs that we are we are, we are very particular; so before you make all lacrosse players out to be drunk, idiotic, misogynistic bastards it would be a good idea to meet a few who are not.

We look forward to your support

Please support our quest for Division 3 status.

Respectfully (is there any other way)

Download the blah blah blah.

Pffft.….….…. men with sticks.….…,

So far the boys have been arrested posted bail and have been suspended from school as is normal procedure when a student is charged with a felony even prior to any conviction.

You grieve you learn. You choke you learn. You laugh you learn. You choose you learn. You pray you learn. You ask you learn. You live you learn

The Duke Chronicle weighs in and they are sick of it as well but as it is embarrassing their school they need to make some attempt to give a crap even before final exams.

Syracuse refuses to consider transfers. ( We know after, all that, Syracuse certainly wouldn’t have any drunk– rowdy overly sexed and under-ly screwed lacrosse player acting out their sick fantasy’s in this manner.)

Some girl was on television, ( Nancy Grace — and believe me I have a bit of a problem with shows like Nancy Grace because they have their own pathos which this blog does not have the bandwidth to take on), last night claiming one of the guys to  be the ” perfect gentlemen” a “gentlemen who visits his girlfriend in the hospital, and who everyone likes to be around because he is so respectful to women” blah, blah, blah but she could not really answer the question as to why a “perfect gentlemen” would  be at a party where there was voracious partying, drinking and stripping she was only there to speak for his character.….….….…

It’s all such a “Jagged Little Pill” isn’t it boys?

Now on to Pia’s .….….….….….….….….…Newsday stint.. Great stuff. Fame and fortune…It will be a tough road but some how she will manage I am sure. Next week Time.

Don’t forget to check out Hell on Earth              because it is.

Addendum: Via Emboldened .….check out the rest.

FLASH: Heckler disrupts Chinese President Hu’s speech on south lawn at White House: ‘President Bush, stop him from killing’… ‘Stop persecuting the Falun Gong,’ she yelled… She also shouted in Chinese, ‘President Hu, your days are numbered’… woman is taken away by uniformed secret service officers… right after Bush urged Hu to allow Chinese to ’speak freely’

  • Just had to check out those pants. OY! No wonder.
Rotten apples often look ok from the outside, but inside they can be rotten to the core.

  • This was on a lighter note. Enough for an afternoon chuckle.

Does that email not give you pause for concern?

Short Pants, those were the days.

Some of those students at Duke sound pretty pissed off about
their school getting this bad publicity.

I think having you for a supporter of any kind would be
    a good thing.

  • I have pictrues of relatives with similar shorts. What were they thinking.
Nice emails you get. You’d make a fine cheerleader but I don’t get
    the impression that’s your thing.
Nancy Grace does have a pathos all her own that is for sure.

Pia’s news day thing ..that was so pia wasn’t it?
    No testosterone in nyc?

  • LOL… those were some “sexy” pants… :)

I’m befuzzled by the whole Duke thing.…

    As for the emails… hmmm?

  • Hmmm… you can almost categorize those as “booty pants”. Too funny,
    not to mention scary :)

  • Cowgirl: those pants are frightfull to be sure. Rotten Apples…so many and the disguise is so good.

joe: did you wear short shorts? No pause for concern it was a joke i’m sure.

jacob: no cheerleader moi and I think haven’t looked for testosterone I’m sure it’s around somewhere. Certainlynot on a lacrosse team that would have to be called ” Violets”.

Leigh: where the heck have you been surfer girl , only girl on my RILF.;) We miss you. Booty pants would be scary on any guy.

Shayna: cutie pants. Don’t be befuddled it will all come out eventually. I’m just angry about thinkgs that people say about

strippers deserving it etc. I have no idea if they are guilty just pigs. So you sleep in the nude? Me too. lol

  • …as opposed to me, who went to USC, otherwise known as a big sports school, especially in football.

  • damn it…

This is what you call lightning it up?

Being the daughter of a famous rock icon is stressful enough I guess.

    It’s my birthday today…Turning 35..now that’s stressful..
    I don’t sleep in the nude…Anyways, I don’t know where I’m
going with this…35..mid-life BS I suppose.
I’m going get drunk tonight maybe.. Hopefully I don’t get raped..
No, scratch that.…I don’t mine unless it’s anal.
I’d better stop, this has no point…going to hurry and click
    submit comment.…live and learn

  • if i lived as much as i’ve learned, then i’d be post-modern by now. those are some shorts. definitely not a wet dream.

  • Why can’t men wear Daisy Dukes and get the same respect women get?

  • Doug is so sassy.
    I like wearing Daisy Dukes!

  • I’m sure I posted on this one earlier.

  • coyote:Sorry I woke up late and had a ton of comments in moderation because of the way this thing is set up now due to crazy hate comments and just spam in general and you were in the moderation box and for some reason got deleted. I realized it right after I clicked it but couldn’t un — do it. ;)

mojo: But the question is did you wear short shorts?

Bennet: Happy Birthday. Drink lots of fluid if you’re going to get drunk. My mother..who is somewhat older than 35, but not older than fifty yet,has said that middle age begins around sixty these days. Then again she always lived in a bubble.

transience: I thought you were post modern? opps my bad.:) No, No wet dream there.

Doug: If anything they should be outlawed. I’d respect you no matter what you wore but I would laugh a little behnd your back.

Cowgirl: Never wore daisy dukes myself at least not that I can remember. I’m sure you looked hot in them though.

  • A whole new meaning for “double standard,” n’est-ce pas? And the best reason ever to have one.

  • Alice,

Interesting take, but like all people, you have missed the point of what happened at Duke. Let me preface by saying; I’m not trying to say in anyway that what the Lacrosse Players did was right. I am saying that it is a problem in universities, not just with sports teams. By sheding a bad light on a sport you are hurting the sport, not the players. The players who are also college students are responsible for there own actions. Sports do not breed this behavior, people do. It is a problem on all campuses, everywhere. If you want it to be solved you should focus on how students in general act on college campuses! Also go here!

  • I wish I had never started this but here goes.

My original post was on Rape Culture it’s in the archives if you care to read it and it had very little to do with the Duke lacrosse players themselves.

Even though I agree with you to some extent, and if you had read my previous posts would understand that I have nothing against lacrosse, some of my good friends either still play lacrosse in college or did play in high school as did my brother, cousins etc.

I agree that this is not about shedding light on lacrosse it is about a few men who have obviously been out of control for some time with the full knowledge of their school but because they were a top ranked( lacrosse) team they were allowed to carry on like, at the very least, boorish pigs until something happened and it became public and obvious that these boys have some serious issues with race, sex and entitlement.

Maybe this is prevalent in the general population or general college population to some extent or maybe not but I imagine you will find many people at colleges across the country that would take issue of being lumped into this category and you may even find lacrosse players doing( taking  issue) the same. (Many college teams are doing it as we speak as a matter of act — trying to tighten the reins on their players and distancing themselves from Duke)

Sadly for the” Duke Boys” they are being exposed for what they are. Whether they are rapists or not well that will be determined, but they are something and it is not perfect gentlemen despite the fact that they may treat their girlfriends “quite nicely and bring them get well cards”.

I agree it is not about lacrosse or lacrosse players in general it is about this lacrosse team, this school and the players while also being about a culture in general which ignores the pathetic situations on college campuses, ignores the fact that we live in a sexist, racist country.

The site you linked me to is touching and I’m sure it was heart felt. I just don’t think that one lacrosse players feeling about his sport matters much.

A note: I used to love going to my friends and my brother’s lacrosse games.

  • I should apologize. Stickler linked here from my blog (I think) where he has
on a few occasions given opinions that seem to leap without looking.

Anyone who reads you knows you look at the whole picture and aren’t
    attacking the sport.

  • CNN in China cut that part out. Problem is poor woman had no chance with an idiot in charge who is probably thinkin “Fall on what?”

Say Bush and a burning, seething rage is awakened.

    Rage… The asshole!

Wait… women get respect? Who’d a thunk it!

  • But why woudn’t a single persons opinion matter?

Isn’t that what we all do with blogs, try to proliferate our opinions!

I’m sorry that I didn’t read back through your history to get the whole picture of your view. I understand now. I’ll drop it so as to keep the coyote at bay!

  • Cooper, you do know that some people are highly offended by this.

    The shorts I mean.

If this is a light as you can go right now I understand.

You know we agree on only about sixty percent of this but those long days of arguing into the wee hours were gone years ago and I won’t get into a debate here. It’s late and we are leaving for NJ to support our team tomorrow in their “big game”. It’s a long drive.

I am glad you took my history in the manner it was intended, and by that I mean jokingly.

Only thing I have to say is that I’m glad it isn’t my jagged little pill to swallow, you do reap what you sow and in the end it will all come out.

A look into that looking glass is always a wake up call so stop making me do it.

Bush …a greater embarrassment to principles than ever sat in the hot seat.

  • Doug: Oui ‚oui ‚oui mon cher chien.

Coyote: Dissenting opinions are always welcome here unlike either at the web site that that stickler came from or the one he left a link to. I posted a comment at one of the ( sorry long day can’t remember which one ) and it was deleted. Lol. So much for proliferation of different opinions across the blogesphere eh?

Mizzy Bohem : Yup I read that, and what more would we expect from one of the biggest violators of human rights on the planet. I mean Hu ( not Bush) in case your wondering. Bush is a disgrace and was probably taking instruction from Hu anyway.

Stickler: The problem with blogs is that people do not read them completely. I never said one persons opinon didn’t’ matter. I said it “didn’t matter much”. It certainly doesn’t matter much, in the case of this Duke debacle, that one person loves lacrosse and has met some lovely lacrosse players. Sure the guy is sad or angry that lacrosse is being put on display by this kind of notoriety but it doesn’t really apply to the situation at hand. It‘s great that he wrote it as a lot of people are out the defending the sport and saying it is full of great people but there are just as many out there admitting that lacrosse players especially lacrosse players at schools with the top programs tend to be exactly as portrayed by this group at Duke and by the media.

Robotman: have fun in Joisey. I bought you some of those shorty pants. If you don’t want them I’ll give them to doug.

  • Of course, I wore them. In fact, short-shorts are still a DAILY part of my wardrobe.

  • Hey, sorry I haven’t had time to comment in a while…looonnng story.

Anyway, actually loved the balance you’re giving to lacrosse in general. It’s a shame, really, that a few bad apples can almost ruin an entire sports’ reputation…er, steroids and baseball, anyone?

Lol…you should check out early basketbal uniforms and the thankfully longdead trad. of posed portraits with game balls…
    HERE

  • mojo: pictures??????????

jason: i am amazed they allowed such clothing.…lol
We all have lives Jason…we can’t always be around.…we can’t all swim with lesbians though…you are forgiven.

  • Some reasons why I love you: you don’t keep score; you laugh behind
Doug’s back; you keep Darfur and Duke in our minds and concsience.

And I just do. Listen to your mother – about middle age
